The Path to Power and Usefulness: A. W. Tozer (Transcript)

Here is the full transcript of A. W. Tozer’s sermon titled “The Path to Power and Usefulness.”

A. W. Tozer’s sermon, “The Path to Power and Usefulness,” emphasizes the necessity of a deep, personal relationship with the Holy Spirit for Christians seeking to live lives of spiritual power and effectiveness. Tozer argues that the filling of the Holy Spirit is not a gradual process but an instantaneous act that results from complete surrender and obedience to God. He highlights four key steps to receiving the Holy Spirit: presenting one’s body as a living sacrifice, asking God for the Holy Spirit, obeying God’s commands, and having faith.

Tozer dismisses the notion of being filled with the Spirit unknowingly, akin to static electricity, asserting that a genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit is unmistakable and transformative. He criticizes the modern church’s reluctance to fully surrender to God’s will, attributing spiritual weakness to this resistance. The sermon calls for a radical examination of one’s spiritual life, urging believers to seek a profound experience of the Holy Spirit’s anointing.

Tozer’s message is a challenging invitation to embrace a deeper, more surrendered walk with God, promising that such a path leads to true spiritual power and usefulness.

TRANSCRIPT:

Path of the purchase of the blood of Christ. And there isn’t anything about the Spirit-filled life that is extra, or abnormal, or strange, or queer, but it is the way Christians are supposed to be.

Now, before you can be filled with the Spirit, you must be sure to the point of conviction. If you have any doubt, if somebody’s dropped a doctrinal question in your mind, and left the impression with you that you received everything God has for you the day you received Christ as your Savior and Lord, you’ll never get anywhere.

Now, not everybody that listens to me is going to be filled with the Spirit.
